Description

A classic novel by Johann David Wyss, The Swiss Family Robinson was intended to be a book that teaches children family values, environmental care and self reliance through use of the natural world. The book tells of the amazing adventures of a shipwrecked family's struggle to survive.

In this Minecraft session, we will explore a similar island under similar circumstances. Our goal is not only to survive, but to learn how to thrive through cooperation and good communication.

Students will learn how to document discoveries, plan ahead and coordinate their efforts. This will be a survival world with real dangers that must be faced. How well you work together will determine if everyone survives, or as the original Swiss family, go on to call the island home.

Students will create a daily journal of their adventure. They are also encouraged to check out the book (either full or abridged version) from the library. By watching to movie or reading the book, students will learn additional tips and tricks to help them enjoy their island adventure.

World map is a variation on o00gareth00o's Realistic Jungle Island, and used with permission.

Yes, this works great in 1.7.10 stable build 12.

Hi, does anybody know how to install the mods required for swiss family robinson? Some step-by-step instructions would be greatly appreciated :) Thanks

Instructions for adding mods is available on the websites that provide the mods, HOWEVER, everything works just fine without them. The mod only adds jungle creatures.

I'm working on adding detailed installation instructions on my website https://sites.google.com/site/kcsminecraftclub/home

Hi Ben, I can't get the mods working?! They show up in my server launcher but then when I open MCFTEDU to go into the game they are nowhere to be seen? Any suggestions??

This is a fantastic use of Minecraft. Was wondering if anybody has seen any classic mysteries recreated in Minecraft, eg. Agatha Christie or even a Nancy Drew.

Nancy Drew mysteries would be awesome! There is a clue map here on EDU! Thanks for taking the time to create wonderful map and lesson!

In the EDU launcher there is a section for mods. Make sure they are turned on. You will also need to have the mods loaded into the correct folder on every machine. Look through this help desk entry for additional solutions: http://services.minecraftedu.com/wiki/Taking_it_Further
