Many students build with redstone, but beginners often don't know some of the more interesting things you can do with it or how some of the more complicated redstone blocks can work. This tour is good for beginners or for intermediate redstone builders looking to add a few more tools to their toolkit. 

First, find the worksheet located here:

Print the worksheet and pass it out to students. Ask them to answer any of the questions they already know, and leave blank the ones they don't (many students will know at least some of them). This is a pre-assessment.

Then, you can have students log on to the world. You will need the Custom NPC's mod installed for the map to work with the quiz at the end.

Instruct them to wander down the purple path and find the answers to the questions they did not know from the worksheet. 

When they finish and go to the quiz master at the end, they will draw the answer to the final question on their paper and show it to you. I give kids a sticker for showing me a decent drawing. You may want to change the final question so the NPC doesn't give out cakes, if the cakes become too distracting.

At the end, you can walk around with the students and discuss some of what they learned. Discuss any of the questions they seemed interested in and ask students to demonstrate how they know the answer.

- What does a piston do that's different from the sticky piston?

- How is a dispenser different from a dropper?

- What do the detector rails do?

- What does a repeater do?

- How can you make an AND gate using a comparator?

- What else can comparators do?
