Description

Skywars is an extremely popular Minecraft variation. In teams, students search multiple floating islands in hopes of finding resources and defeating the enemy. Using its popularity, I downloaded a map created by Kakabolamar called Skywars - Dojolands  (http://www.planetminecraft.com/project/skywars--dojolands/ ). I modified it with NPCs and a teleport room. Searching online, you can find gobs of maps that you can modify to fit your needs. The students will complete traditional problems with enthusiasm as they experience a well-designed Minecraft map.

DIRECTIONS

The students will spawn in a room with buttons. In my class, typically, the students are in six groups of four. When they find the appropriate button, they will teleport to their own island. (You may want to change the signs.) After that, they are free to search the area for 20 NPCs. There are 13 islands--12 small and 1 large. Each of the 12 islands has one NPC, while the 1 large island has 8 NPCs. Each NPC requires a trade--objects from the world for a notebook.

The notebooks are simple--I've written a fraction, decimal, or percent. On their papers, the students copy the number and convert it into the other two forms.

Once they have found all 20 problems, then need to search for more NPCs, who require special trades. Eventually, they will make the final trade for the ultimate prize.

This should take 60 minutes or less. PvP will make it a true Skywar, but that's a longer game.

You can easily change the problems to whatever you want and still use this map.

Hi! I love this world - very cool! My question is if there are only 6 buttons how do students get to the other islands to interact with NPCs? Thanks so much!

Oh! I forgot to ask about the "Repair & Name" anvils? How are these supposed to be used? Thanks, Anita
